The Mabie Network

  Mabie Surname DNA Project

A Surname DNA Project has begun for the Mabie families, including all variations of the spelling and variations of the related Van Naerden name.

The purpose of the project is to identify related individuals and their relationships, to prove or disprove current theories regarding our ancestors and to validate existing research, to break through current brick walls in our research, and to determine locations for further research.

The Y chromosome is passed from father to son unchanged, except for a mutation about every 500 generations.  Testing the Y chromosome will provide us with a genetic fingerprint consisting of 12, 25, or 37 markers.  By comparing this fingerprint with others in our surname group, we can determine relationships.

This project can be a great benefit to all of our genealogical research.  Males in the direct male line of the family can participate.  Females can help by encouraging their male relatives (fathers, grandfathers, and brothers) to participate in the project.  For the initial phases of the project, we only need to get the 12 marker tests.  Each test will cost $99 plus shipping, a discounted group rate.  This may be a lot of money for some people, but if you can afford it, you will be helping all of our research tremendously.  Also, if  you can afford to help others who can not afford the test to get tested, there is a link at familytreedna.com to donate to the project.
